EGGS… are they REALLY the PERFECT SNACK for Fat Loss?

As a health nut and busy working mother of 3, I am someone who is always looking for a high protein snack, I have found that eggs are something that appeals to nearly everyone and I tend to enjoy often! With so many recipes and ways to cook them, they rarely fall on that list of ‘things I’ll never eat again’.  Eggs are easy to eat, not too messy and great for on the go eating (I know most of us are looking for healthy on the go snacks!).

In fact, eggs are a great source of protein that contains ALL of the essential amino acids that our body needs to build and repair muscle! To get all the benefit of an egg, you must eat the entire egg. Organic , cage-free eggs are always a better choice if they are available

3 EASY STEPS TO A PERFECT HARDBOILED EGG!

Below you will find a recipe to make the perfect HARD-BOILED EGGS. You may not need this recipe if your boiled eggs turn out perfect every time and you’ve never have a problem with the membrane sticking to the white of the egg. However,  if you are like me, you’ve tried  many times and only occasionally got it right… the recipe below will ensure you have EASY TO PEEL eggs every time!!

RECIPE FOR PERFECT HARDBOILED EGGS

  1. Place the eggs in a pot of COLD water. Be sure there is at least an inch of water above the top of each egg. The idea is to stabilize the temperature between the water and eggs.
  2. Place the pot with the eggs and water over high heat until the water comes to a full boil. IMMEDIATELY take the pot off the heat and cover with a tightly-fitting lid. The eggs will continue to cook from the heat of the water.
  3. Let the eggs sit in the pan in the hot water for 12 minutes for medium eggs, 15 minutes for large eggs and 18 minutes for extra large eggs. USE A TIMER! After your timer goes off, drain water and replace with ice cold water. Let the temperature between water and eggs stalilize again and you’ll have the perfect BOILED EGGS! ENJOY and give yourself a pat on the back for choosing a healthy and natural snack!

it sounds that i will be in your site often.. :o)

and question - how many hardboiled eggs person could eat every day? and if i will have 2 egg omlet for breakfast - could i still have boiled egg for snack? please advice. thank you!

  4. Blythe says:

Yes! eggs are a great protein filled snack. 2-3 whole eggs per day should be fine. However, if high-cholesterol is a problem you have, you may want to keep that in mind when you are eating the yolks. I eat 2-3 whole eggs most days and the rest whites only. I personally strive for about 40g healthy WHOLE FOOD fats daily and eggs help me reach that goal and high cholesterol doesn’t run in my family. If you would like help with a nutritional plan, I’d be happy to have you on board! Thanks Kay!

  5. RonC says:

Good stuff Blythe. This is exactly (or egg-xactly?) how I cook boiled eggs. Cooking them this way also prevents the ugly gray around the yolk (if presentation matters to you)… Keep up the good work!

I love egg I have 8 hens all free-range. A rooster and 2 of the hens are Arucanas; I was told that this type of egg don’t have cholesterol? I don’t have any challenges with cholesterol, but if true is it ok to eat?

  9. Dr. Ray says:

Hello Ann! If it has a yolk then it has cholesterol, although it is possible that Arucanas hens lay eggs that have less cholesterol than the average chicken. The fact that your hens are free-range hens automatically assures that your eggs have lower levels of cholesterol and higher levels of healthy omega-3 fatty acids. I do not worry about the cholesterol found in eggs as studies have shown that egg intake does not result in appreciable elevations in blood cholesterol. In fact, some studies have found that eating 15 eggs a week has no impact on blood cholesterol at all. So, ENJOY YOUR EGGS!

  10. [...] is a good practice as it does seem to offer some benefit to appetite. Similar research has shown eggs to be a good way of controlling appetite later in the day as well. The take-home message is to make protein the foundation of your breakfast [...]
