Burn 25% More Calories with One Simple Change

What if I told you that making one change in the way that you workout on your aerobic exercise equipment could result in burning 25% more calories. Are you ready?

Stop holding on!

Seriously, it is that simple. I always cringe whenever I walk into the gym and see 4 out of 10 people jogging on the treadmill while holding onto the safety rails. This is even worse for those people on the stair stepping machine; for this group it is more like 8 out of 10. Research has shown that supporting yourself during aerobic exercise decreases caloric expenditure by 20-25%. So…

Stop holding on to the rails!

I agree! I feel my workout so much more when I don’t hold on to my elliptical.

Kami and Ray~ this is true! It kills me to see people sweating and working hard on the treadmill or on that grueling stair stepper with half their body weight supported by their upper body! Who walks up stairs like that? Truthfully,l the people that may be holding on may not be ready for that exercise… slow down the pace or choose a different piece of equipment so you can just LET GO.
